Default Best Exhaust - Sound - Performance?

I am looking for a new exhaust system for my 97 951. Any ideas as to which exhaust system has a nice performance sound (not too load - primarily street car) and increases performance? What is everyone's preference?

Please post your opinions.

I would say 3" with a magnaflow muffler - thats what I have and I like it. Not a big fan of the flowmasters, and I haven't heard a borla xr-1 in person

I've got a 3", no cat & a Borla XR-1...I really like the sound. If I were doing it again...I do it again.

I have a rather stock exhaust with a Dynomax Magnum Bullet muffler welded in place of the stock one. I love the sound! Not to ricy, deep idle. I'm installing my catbypass this weekend and can't wait to hear how it sounds.

I have a 3" exhaust from Lindsey with a flowmaster 40 muffler.
The FM40 has a very ricy sound, not the low rumble I wanted. It sounds fabulous at 4500rpm+ WOT, but it does get tiresom at longer drives.
I'm replacing the FM40 with a Borla XR-1 as the FM40 does not pass the noise restrictions set by the EU.
103dB@4800rpm is 8dB more than stock and 3dB over the limit.

Thanks Guys.

Does anyone have a sound clip of the Borla XR-1 full exhaust?

I just had a 2.5" system with hi flow cat and magnaflow put on. I love it. Throaty but quiet sounding. Didn't notice any difference either putting a cat on as opposed to the test pipe in everyday driving.

I do know I'm not going to get a $2500 ticket for not having a cat though.

I have a full 3 inch SFR system on my car and love the sound, its deep and really not all that loud.

If someone can host the file or whatever I would be willing to make a quick movie clip of the car at startup and some revs.
