Highest Mileage 951?
Was out dropping off some parts at my local machine shop and I spy this Alpine White 951 passing by so being very partial to White (I have one) and having a great deal of time on my hands (retired) I follow him home.
I introduced myself and struck up a conversation about his car. It’s an 86 with 355,700 miles on the odometer he’s guessing but the car should have close to 450,000+ the odometer broke EIGHT YEARS AGO!!
The engine has never been apart the head etc. He has maintained the belts and changed the oil religiously and only uses synthetic oil.
I found this very hard to believe but he claimed it still has the original clutch?????.
He drives the car everyday is the original owner and claims his 951 to be the best most reliable car he has ever owned.
Before going on vacation he heard some lifter noise so he took it to his mechanic left it for ten days the mechanic checked it found nothing wrong with it he picked it up the car started right up and no lifter noise.
Visually the car looks like it has every bit of 450,000 miles on it the interior looks like a junk yard reject.
Mr. X struck me as the type who demands his money’s worth out of a car and I would say he has gotten every pennies worth out of his 951.
No BS true story

i dont think any clutch, much less a 951 clutch holds up for 400k.

Cool story!
I had a 83 944, and the sucker have 180K on the original clutch. It was that dam rubber center disc too. The only reason I change it was because I started hearing a strange cliking noise in the bellhousing. I took the stater out to look, and found a broken return spring on the pressure plate. that was it. I am sure that if it wasn't for that, it would have lasted at least another 40k easily. And I drove it hard, didn't abuse it, but I did drive it like it was meant to be. Some people under estimate how durable this car can be, when maintaine correctly.

I had 136,500 on my odo when it broke about a year a go, and now my car has 96,000 miles with the new odo! Of course, i am keeping track of the correct mileage and staying away from resetting the trip odo and just letting it run. My car has had no major problems and I drive it like a porsche should be driven. I am waiting to get a career and an additional vehilcle before starting to mod. I have a lot of fun with my stock 86' 951 with borla catback.
