Default hybrid thread

just looking at some other posts with dropping a v8 into our 951s i figured id feel out this interesting lil proposition

my dad has a 1975 911 that is in decent shape but the motor can be bitchy, how many of you guys would like to see our sexy 4 cyl turbo up in a old school 911?

i think it would be a fun project, the 911 is maybe 2500 lbs, and has power nothing, its fun to drive as-is but with the turbo kicking in hard it would be a blast

just a feeler, discussion thread

I don't think it would work. Is there any transmission that will bold up directly to a 944 engine block? where would the drive train sit? Also the engine sits canted in the engine bay and the oil pan is shaped as such, if you were to attempt this, would there be clearance to put the engine in as it sits in a 951? Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be a great idea to try, but it'd take time. I know my car will pull on my dads 84 Carrera and he's lighter than I am. It'd be interesting to see how my engine would push his car. But for all the money someone would put into a project like this, wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a 930? I've heard those cars are burtally awesome and they drive on the ragged edge (on the track). Just my $.02.

well anything is possible with enough $$$, and though I have no idea what it would take to mount a 951 engine in a 911, I imagine it would take a whole hell of a lot of custom work for the tranny and probably the chassis...the layouts for both cars are just so different, I imagine it would take many cubic yards of cash

You'd be better off buying a 930 engine, oh yeah, and this isnt going to happen.

Fit it behind the driver and make it mid engined, However it would be much simpler to fit another 911 motor or get the one in there sorted.
The fact the current motor is 'bitchy' seeds doubts that a more adventurous project would be a success.

Didn't someone post a picture of a Buick 3.8 Turbo in a 911 a while back?
