It sounds like something is not right on your car. I raced an E-stock Turbo 944 for over a year and really pushed the car hard and after about 14 race weekends the axles were still like new.

I've gone through three axle CV bearings on the track and my car is running slightly lowered. The ball cage breaks apart. The later axles fit. All of the axles are interchangable except that parts cannot be interchanged between early and late because the splines are different.

If this helps, i used the CV's from my 88NA auto, not the axles though.
I also understand that the CV bolts are stretch type, and i took them off several times while re-using the bolts w/o issues.
Are you torquing them correctly? they should be at 31 Ft/Lbs, and torque them in a cross-pattern. Once you torqued them down, wait 15 minutes and re-check the torque, i never had one pop off. The driver's side did pop off once, and a bolt snapped in the flange, but the PO was the one who repacked that side of the axle, never had a problem since then.

Could heat soak from the exhaust be causing a problem?

this is what i was thinking at first ...but i am not sure that heat soaking would cause the cv to break apart
