Default Best way to seal OE sunroof permanently

Hello all,

Looking for the best/cheapest/most graceful way to properly close and secure my OE sunroof panel. My '86 951 is track-only, so I want to get the weight out. Since I'm endeavoring to do this on the cheap, I want to retain the factory panel (car has beautiful paint) but not necessarily drill holes through it.

Any ideas? The lid has to be secure, since if I ever do have a bad "off", I'd prefer it stay in place.

Cheers and thanks all!

Do a search, there was a pretty good thread on this subject before with pictures etc. It was in the racers forum.

just weld couple small spots between sunroof and the roof from in side.
That way if you later on you wanted to take it out, it is still ok.

OE sunroof is fiberglass, so cannot be welded. Other thoughts? I couldn't find the above referenced thread-any help?

Just make up some brackets and bolt it in. If you pull out the normal hardware you can use those bolt points with some very simple brackets and be done.

All you need is some thickish sheet aluminum. Probably 1/8" would work fine.
