I filled up my 951 tonight and accelerated hard up a freeway overpass and then got a very strong gas odor in the car. It kind of scared me, I inspected the engine --no leaks there. Where could this be comming from?

maybe a leak from the overflow tube that tees into the rear passenger sunroof drain?

Could it have been an exhaust smell? You will get that if the rear hatch seal has a gap in it, or if the hatch is not fully latched.

It was a strong petrol smell. Tomorrow I'll pull the rear carpet and check the fuel sender gasket. I'll check that overflow tube as well.

I had this smell and realized there were holse drilled into the gas tank from an old stereo install. Needless to say the tank needed to be replaced.

I get that strong gas smell in mine also. I accelerated hard and came up to a stop light and noticed in my passenger mirror fumes coming out from my gas cap. I know it's not coming from the rear hatch because the seal is new. I'm going to get a new gas cap and see if that fixes the problem.
