Default AC compressor clutch removal

I searched this topic in the archive and saw people seeking advice on how to remove the nut from the front of the compressor... What I am really interested in is how the actual clutch disk can be removed withouth the special puller tool, and without breaking it by trying to pry it off with a screw driver. I tried the screw driver method on my parts car for grins and I didn't break anything, but I also didn't apply enough force to remove the clutch. Is the puller something that can be rented at auto zone?

Thanks!

Just go to autozone and get the puller for free (deposit only).

^^^What he said!

Honestly though. I went this route once and decided never again.
There are toooo many good compressors with clutches that people are selling refurbished or off wrecks or from delete cars all with good clutches.
Cost a lot less too.

Only thing to consider is what your system is charged with.(then there are obvious advantages/disadvantages)

My "new" compressor with "new" pulley snapped at the shaft. Made me late for work. I bought an ebay broken compressor with a good pulley/clutch for 5 bucks and did the swap. The autozone puller worked great and I didn't have to get to involved with it, just take the nut off, remove some snap rings and replace. Works great.
