Default Looking for a bolt. (squealing problem) *WITH MORE nonconfusing PICTURES*

So today I put the car (1988 944 turbo s) up on a lift to see if I need to tighten the belt, as I was feeling around I saw that when I pushed a bit on the belt the compressor would move. (So im guessing the squealing noise is coming from the load on the belt moving the compressor which makes the belt out of allignment?) After searching around to see why the compressor is loose I found that a bolt is missing. Check out the picture, should a bolt be there?

thanks

To be frank, it's a really bad photograph and I'm still trying to figure out what we're looking at. Is this from the bottom up, or top down? I'm thinking it's bottom up and you're actually pointing at the alternator rather than the A/C compressor....

Hmm i could be mistaken about it being the compressor then. I can clearly see that pushing on the belt causes the unit to move a bit out of place.

More pictures

From the front of the car

Under, this is the unit which on the top of it, it seems that a bolt is missing so while the belt is under load this unit will move a bit from its position maybe causing the squealing.

The top of the unit where maybe a bolt should be

I just wanted to show that I lost a bolt which was supposed to be there causing belt squeeling, you were asking if a bolt should be there

OH!

So I am correct about a bolt being there? Could I pick it up from the dealership?

You can order it there or just go to a hardware shop if you know the thread and pitch of the bolt im sure someone here knows the correct values off hand

It's a 13mm head, I think 8mm shaft, I forgot the thread probably 1.5 or 1.0 on the back of the AC compressor. The bolt on the other side of my compressor was missing and it ended up breaking the adjustment bar more than once and a bad squeal. REPLACE it ASAP or you will break the adjustment rod, there should be a 17mm head bolt in the front of the compressor.

So is it just a bolt I need or will I need a nut for the back aswell?

thanks

Cool -- the additional pictures help. PET shows an M8x55mm bolt at the back of the A/C compressor. I believe M8 is 13mm head with 8mm shaft with 1.25 thread pitch -- commonly found at a typical hardware store that carries metric bolts. No nut, just a washer -- it must go to the thread in the A/C bracket.
