Default I've got one HECK of a Vibration, whats causing it?

Ok, here is the story.

Drove the car to a graduation party today, was there an hour or so, get in the car, turn around take off in 1st gear and all of a sudden, it felt like something let loose and this hellacious vibration starts... push in the clutch.. goes away. Pull it into 2nd and let the clutch out.. vibration starts again. Pulled over and checked everything out visually. Everything thing looks fine, engine sounds fine (no funny noises), hope back in and take off.. say 2500rpm the vibration starts.

So what the hell happend?!

I drive it about 20miles home, everyhing seems fine except this hellacious vibration that gets worse with more RPM's. I'm talking with my dad and have him feel it, you can really feel it in the gas pedal and hear it vibrating the car. So i'm standing outside the car and as he revs it, i do not hear the turbo. Like i have a cone filter and i can always hear it spinning.. and my mom noticed it too. It sounds like an NA engine.. no turbo spinning/spooling noise.

Now i didn't get into the boost on the way home, i was too afraid.

My diagnosis is one of the following:

1. Turbo's Fubar
2. Balance shafts?
3. Flywheel? (althou the drive train works fine)

I'm going to pull the AFM/Jboot off tomorrow and see if i can spin the turbo and feel anything by hand.

Any other suggestions? Or what the heck this is?

I'm betting a spring on the clutch is FUBAR. Is it worse at a specific rpm range?.

A spring on the clutch? Not a specific range no, just the more rpm's the worse the vibartion is. This also happens in neutral, so wouldn't that rule out the clutch?

Wouldn't I also have issues driving the car if a spring on the clutch is fubar? The clutch has like maybe 5000miles on it as well.

It is likely not a motor mount, however if try rocking the engine back and forth by hand and see how much it moves.

The clutch will work, but vibrate with a weak spring on the clutch disk. It typically is worse in decel (my experience). If it's not too bad you may be able to nurse it along for awhile, but my bet is on the clucth disk spring. The vibration on mine was most noticable @ 2800-3000 rpm.

I sure hope its not a clutch disc spring, what would cause a pratically brand new clutch to do that? We're talking less than a year old and less than 5k miles. Cup Clutch as well.

I'd like to think it would be something simple. Did you do the work yourself? If not, did the shop supply the clutch? If you bought it all in one spot you may be able to have it replaced (if that is what it is). But I'd bet they'd be happy to help you prove it's not the clutch.

It happens in neutral... how about when the clutch pedal is depressed?

Yep, I did all the work myself, the clutch kit was purchased from Zims and the Flywheel was bought from Sam Lin.

Might check to make sure all cylinders are firing -- pull one plug at a time. Might also check that the timing belt is still on and aligned.

Well my 2nd guess was correct. Balance shaft belt went kapooie. We pulled the covers and ripped the old belt out. I have a new one, just don't have the tool to tension it correctly.

Start simple. I assume when you depress the clutch you also let off on the gas knocking the RPM down. Could your balance belt have skipped any teeth? Once I installed my balance belt out of tune and it had that very same symptom. Got really bad when you increased engine RPM. Check your orientation before tearing anything else apart.

Oops, I gotta refresh my screens more often.

Thank goodness the balance shaft belt did not pop the timing belt when it went.

Wes, your balance shaft went shizzle dizzle. If the balance shaft belt was done at the same time the timing belt was done, then that might mean the timing belt is not too far from joining the balance shaft belt!

You gots to get it replaced soon! Its not too hard either, my *** can do it now.

Id try and make that gtg at Dans house. Get it done there.
