Default fuel dampner leak

Question...Did one last check under hood before heading out to autocross...found leak at fuel pressure dampner crimp at center of unit. What does this thing realy do... is there any driveablity problems associated wtih them. Mahalo! Kevin P.S. drove wifes G35 in autocross instead.

The damper absorbs the fuel pressure pulsations from the fuel injectors opening and closing.

The car will drive fine without it. Mine leaked at the crimp just like yours. It may make a bit of noise if you run without it...

Thanks for the info....ordered brand new one for $50...It was the only part of the entire fuel system I didn't replace...my 1986 is now a 2006!

I just replaced mine too when I noticed dampness/stains at the seam.

I'd highly recommend fixing it immediately. The diaphragm broke on my fuel damper, and it pumped fuel through the vacuum line attached to it, which in turn filled all of the other vacuum lines with fuel. It got so bad that fuel made it into the KLR's boost signal line and I had to take the KLR, vacuum lines and everything off to blow it all out with compressed air.
