Default Which way do I turn it...

I feel quite stupid for asking this question. I'm trying to remove the 2-3" pipe and the 90-deg elbow feeding water into the turbo housing located on the hotside.

I have the straight pipe sectoin twisting off of the turbo but I can figure out which way I need to turn the joint on the elbow to disconnect it from the straight pipe so I can take it out (as the blasted elbow and straight pipe won't rotate all the way around due to the brake fluid heat shield thing).

...and all this could be avoided with a slight reshaping of the heat shield...

Which pipe? The one that goes from the turbo water pump to the turbo center section?

Okay, let me ask this way, is it on the right or left side of the turbo?

In any event, if it is threaed, you want to turn it left. There are no reverse threads in the engine bay...

You can remove the heat shield... I think it is 3 bolts IIRC...

It's the pipe on the right of the turbo that blocks the top front crossover bolt. It seems like I should pull it (the piece that looks like it connects the elbow to the straight piece) towards me while keeping the straight piece stationary but I was yanking on it quite hard and didn't feel any give.

I can barely see the bolts holding the heat shield on but it looks like it would be about impossible to slide past the dipstick and other additions.

In the picture it's the pipe just to the right from where the oil line connects to the top of the turbo. Only mine looks different :-/

The pipe is turned down because it turned where it connects to the turbo.

There is a hex section on the straight pipe right next to the tubo (barely visible) that is just off of 19mm. It is also slightly worn. And then there is that huge bolt-looking thing. There are no other non-round sections on the pipes.

Okay... Someone added that piece of pipe... Just hold the hex bit that is closest to the turbo still, while turning the large hex bit left (towards you if your wrench is on the top)...

Does the stock fitting come out without being dismantled?

You don't need to do that to get the engine out...
The exhaust comes apart by 3 bolts after the down pipe... Go under the car and reach above your O2 sensor. There is a flange there with 3 bolts that you undo... You need to remove the rest of the exhaust, but you don't need to remove any exhaust pieces in the engine bay. Down pipe, x-over, and headers stay on...

Do you have the factory manuals?
