Default Out with the motor!!!!!

I have heard that using the lifting rings can be bad, mmkay (south park emphasis added).

Where else should I lift.

Never had an issue with the lifting rings, it is what they are there for.

I had my head off the car when I pulled mine, and just attached a hook to my broadfoot bracket (alternator) and then at the rear of the engine at that hook. You should be fine :^)

I used the rings... If it were up to me, I would position them differently, but they work... They may bend, but no biggie.

If you use a wide engine leveller, then the loop will not bend. It is only when you use 2 chains from a hook, or a similar setup where it is pulling at an angle on the rear loop that it will bend.
The front mounting point is much tougher than the rear one, and I have never bent one.

Use a leveler and you'll be fine. I used the rings on mine. You going out the top or bottom? If top, get the leveler for sure. Trust me.

used the rings too. If you don't use a spreader bar(leveler) you can bend the one of the cam tower but hell, 5 pound shop hammer fixes that.
