Default PS fluid hose replacements…What’s so special?

The hoses that connect to the power steering reservoir, what’s so special about them? Has anyone replace them with a stock hose? If so, what kind? The reason I ask is that my plan is to replace the PS system with a manual rack, but do not have the cash right now. In the mean time, I would like to stop the PS fluid from leaking and do not want to spend all that $$ on new OEM PS fluid hoes.

Any advice?

If I remember correctly the upper end OE hose has a flared area that connects to the reservoir barb, the bottom connection is smaller. Maybe there's a standard size hose you can stretch over the reservoir barb and still be small enough for the bottom.

What ever hose you get make sure it is compatable to power steering fluids.

Check some of the local parts houses. Some of the NAPA's around here have the ability to make most types of hydraulic hoses. I would imagine they can repair/ remake the hose for less than a factory replacement.

Make sure it's compatible with automatic transmission fluid, NOT power steering fluid. The power steering system in these cars uses ATF instead of power steering fluid.

Default ATF...really!

ATF...really!? You think that's why my power steering isn't working real well? The leaks appear to be isolated to seepage around the aforementioned hose ends. That is to say, the system hold fluid. I have the rack of right now, as I am rebuilding a-arms and some other stuff. Any maintenance that can be done to the rack, short of a complete reseal?...remember, my goal is to end up with manual.

It states on the reservoir cap to use ATF only.
