ABS and the low oil level sending wire aren't even part of an engine harness iirc.

I just took one off an 87 and can't remember the low oil seder wire even having to be detached.

Seems like these would go with individual harnesses to the cluster and the ABS computer, not the DME and KLR...

BTW- some 86 951s are said to not have O2 sensors (so no provisions in the harness) like the 87+ cars but the couple that I've seen did.

I just dropped an engine for a customer/friend and his 86 has 02 *and* two piece crossover from the factory.

IF, and I mean IF the dealership was honest, the cars that got the recall on the 1-4 exhaust manifold, also got the two pc crossover. I too believe the ABS is seperate, as it goes to the brake system, which also fed the speedo reading with cars equipped with ABS. I think the oil level was a part of the harness, as my new one upstairs does have the single pole plug. Now, my car is an 87, must be an early one as my harness and oil pan have no provision for the low oil level indication.

The engine harness comes with the oil level sensor wiring. Every wire that attaches to the engine is part of the engine harness.

The ABS is a seperate harness.

Hey Bret....that's interesting. Is your oil pan even the updated sump type with the smoothed round area on the bottom fins...?

Well, after Ski's post I'm less concerned, having just pulled an 87 harness that didn't have the oil level sender connector with the engine harness.

I wonder why the DME would need to know the oil level of the engine as the only action taken is the exclamation warning is lit in the cluster....?

Not sure if the wires to the alternator and PS pressure switch (maybe turbos don't have this feature..?) are part of the engine harness either but that could be argued as accesories and not the actual engine itself.

Not all cars had the oil level sensor. During the 87 model year Porsche made ALL the wiring harnesses the same and included the wiring for the sensor. If it was not equipped then it was bundle tied off with the OPS wiring.

The DME doesn't see the oil level. The wiring is in the engine harness because it's on the engine. On the control unit end of the harness there is the DME connector, the KLR connector, the coding plug and a flat 8 pin connector that has the wiring to the dash for the oil level sensor.
