You may be better off price wise going with late offset and adapters. M030 Turbo S spindles will be upwards of $750 a pair.

I've done what you're planning, and if I were doing it again, I'd go with the standard late offset sprindles with adapters. They use the same bearings as M030. M030 sprindles do give you a little more clearance between rotors and the ball joints, but are much more expensive, if you can find them at all.

If the purpose of the swap is a brake upgrade, then I echo the push for late spindles with adaptors.

If the purpose of the swap is to strengthen the suspension for track use, then no, there is no alternative to the M030 spindles.

Try to buy calipers for example from Germany.I suppose you are able to buy them cheaper there (used or new ones) Then have a local machine shop do the adapters. If you are upgrading your brakes, why settle to 951 S ones, me and my friend Pete (Pete95zhn) changed front calipers to GT2 units and rear ones are GT3 calipers. If you have "old" ET car, the rear upgrade is rather easy. GT3 rotor will bolt on directly. You just need adapters for the calipers. We have new ET cars, so we have special made adapters also for hand brake shoes.
Here's few picturs of Pete's setup:

If you go Big Red route, check out my friend's Tommy's Big Yellows:

If you need more info GT2/GT3 adapres (or Big Red adapters) PM me, we have a good manufacturer.

that looks great. so what do they stop like? i had the chance a few weeks back to get the GT3 calipers 2nd hand for about 500. but i just bought 2 sets of race wheels in 17 inch and as yourve said before, you need 18s to fit properly.

Depends what GT3 adapters you are using. Mark I GT3 adapters (4-piston) can be used with 17" wheels. New 6-piston GT3 calipers are just about the same as GT2 ones, so you need to have 18" wheels with them.

Design-wise, the M030 spindles and hubs are not stronger than the standard late offset spindles and hubs (Turbos/S2s/968s). The M030 spindles are just a couple mm longer and have the different caliper mounting bolt arrangement. The hubs are just a couple mm longer and it looks like this is just on the wheel stud face. Otherwise the diameters, thicknesses, bores, bearings, etc. are all the same.

And ironically, in fact there are many documented M030 hub fractures on track cars, and I have not heard of any non-M030 hub failures. I have a full set of spare M030 hubs and spindles, but will likely use caliper adaptors and mount the 928S4 calipers to my non-M030 spindles for that reason.

the same adapters used to fit 993tt calipers will work for s4 calipers on non m030 spindles

My experience differs: the number of M030 spindle failures is far less than the number of late-spindle failures that I've seen and heard about. I've not done destructive testing on either, simply had track feedback. Yes the M030 hub failure is a concern. The M030 spindle with one of the aftermarket billet hub options is the best combination for track use.

I had a conversation on this subject with a local Porsche dealership tech that also races a 968. He said that the late M030 spindles have a different Akerman (spelling?) angle (over center) which allows for quicker turn-in.

At what sort of horsepower do you think it's necessary to upgrade from M030 89' Turbo 's' setup to one of the abovementioned options? They are pretty damn good but is bigger always better? Also to clarify, is it possible to upgrade successfully with 17" wheels or is this a compromise and therefore do you have to go and spend even more on 18"s plus rubber? This is starting to get very expensive if that's the case.
Also check out some info on this link. It is thought provoking.
