Default Safelite stupidity

I was looking at my windshield that I got installed from safelite last friday. The windshield was about 1/4 inch too short on both sides, so they filled it up with glue and just let it sit like that. It looks like horrible ***. Ive heard that the early car windshields are narrower. Is it possible they used an early car windshield?

Can I still call up safelite and tell them I want my money back? Its been exactly a week today.

you got a "944" windshield that did not have the antenna in it. The 951 windshield with the "antenna" in it is about a 1/2 inch longer on each side. I made this mistake when i tried to get the windshield with out the antenna installed.

Safelite did that to me too, then they gave me a factory sekurit with antenna for free when I complained. So I ended up with the good one for the price of the bad one, not a bad deal, hopefully it works out this way for you.

The PO of my car had the windshield replaced with a pre 85.5 w/o antenna, so when they arrived with the correct windshield for an 87 w/ antenna, they thought they had the wrong one once they compared numbers on the glass itself. I told them it was ok to install the "wrong" one they had and they charged me 250 instead of the 450 it should have been.

They indeed installed an early model windshield. I would defenetley tell them because odds are it will leak when it rains. This is the stamp from a late model windshield with no antenna.

Really – I have never seen a late model no antenna windshield.

Usually it a good sign when they ask if you have an antenna or not they don’t know the difference between the early and late windshield (up to 85.5 and 85.5 and later).

So don’t blame them (OK, maybe a little) if they asked you if you wanted the antenna one or not and there was a big price difference, that should have got your attention.

I need to replace the windshield in my 87 with another one without the antenna and no tinting on the top. My windshield has rubber trim piece that covers the gap between the window and the car. The trim piece has come out and I purchased a new one however the old windshied is too tired to hold it. Someone told me my window was from a 968. I have seen windshields that have a metal trim piece rather then the rubber. Are these from the earlier cars. I do not want to make a mistake a get the wrong windshield. Thanks.

Early 944 – smaller windshield with no antenna and metal molding that ‘sticks out’
Late 944 – Antenna, larger size, has rubber trim strip that fits flush (or close) with the windshield.
968…..I don’t know there – could be a good source for a non antenna windshield – anybody ever get a piece quote?

Chris, I went into PET and you were right. All of the windshileds for the later cars had the antennas and there were 9 part numbers. There were two non antenna windshields for the 968 the first was clear 944 541 011 16 and 944 541 011 15 which was tinted. The glass on my car is Sekurit, verbond, 43R 001 126, DOT 27 / M75 / AST, USG tinted and does not have the antenna.

I had my windsheild installed by a safelite guy, and he did a horrible job. It was the correct windsheild, though. The carry a lifetime warrantee in workmanship and material flaws (or something like that). When I called up to complain they were completely helpful, and the guy was back the next day to try again. He got it right the second time. Give them a call and see what they say.
