This is an age old dilema. Mothers-NO, vasoline-NO (works long enough to sell them!), havn't seen any before and after pics of Sea Power or the swirl remover though.

I've personally seen what vaseline can do to help stained forged clubsports and it works well IMO.

I believe the damage is in the protective clearcoat they put over the anodized metal. The acidic cleaner turns the clearcoat cloudy and it's not just a suface thing. To get past the cloudy area you run the risk of breaking through the clear and exposing the metal surface. Clearcoat damage is one of the hardest things to fix correctly. Take them to a good detailer, maybe he can give you some better advice. Hope it works out for you.

Hmmmmm, think I might try the vaseline thing and see how long that lasts. Or .... maybe the swirl remover (I have some of that around here). I'm thinking I'll use the least harshest to start with. I still can't believe I did this.

I did it too. Turned my wheels white. They came polished. Used Eagle One too. Had to take them off and repolish all of them. Sucked. Good luck. Might be a good time to polish them.

When my dad's 951 still had the S wheels on it like yours, they were pretty bad like that from years of abuse. We usually used some metal polish (I forget the name but I will check) and they would come out mirrored looking again. If I remember correctly, they wouldn't stay that way forever and would slowly turn white again, which called for more polish every few weeks.

I dont believe there is any clear coat from the factory covering the anodized finish. I have seen some wheels that have been polished, that have clear coat on them, but that is because the anodizing was buffed off - which would allow the bare alum. to oxidize very easily/quickly.
