Default Painting Caliper..??

I am thinking of painting my brake calipers on my 951 because mine look old plus I would like to dress up the outside since I did the wheels. What kind of paint (brand and type) of paint did you guys use? I looked at VHT paint used for headers and tested some on something else, but it looks orange compared to nice red. It was the red in that brand as well, plus it didn't have a shine. VHT also have a caliper paint kit that has the primer and paint which I might think about in red. Also, when you guys stripped the caliper down, did you have to get the old paint off or just enough to ruff it up then clean it for the other paint to stick?

I used the VHT yellow for my calipers.
I just cleaned them real good(off the car of course) roughed them up with a bit of steel wool-then plugged the brake fluid hole with a wire nut

,taped off the pistons and seals and bleed nozzles and spring frame, sprayed and baked in an oven.(around 150° for around 30minutes)(I had a spare convection outside for this purpose) I have picts somewhere.
Plenty of shine. I then went back and did the raised letters black.

Take them off, well worth the effort for complete coverage.

When you take them off, will brake fluid just come out of the line or will it stay in and just keep it clean? I am bleeding the system as well, good time being spring plus this. Did you have to tape anything off then once you take off (like the actual piston)? I know the valve to bleed will be to be addressed.

I did two at a time starting at the front.
No leakage that I recall...some I am sure but it did not bleed like a stuck pig or anything
In my post above I have listed what I taped off.
I will find those picts tonight and post tomorrow.

Of course after I was done, I did a full bleed with ATE superBlue.
Good time to do stainless brake lines if you are so inclined.
Just keep an eye on your resevoir and don't let it get below the bottom of the resevoir.

Here are the picts. You can see a couple of spots where I did not have it balanced and the caliper fell over. This was not a problem once I hit it with another coat and baked it. I did about three coats. Baking it brought out the shine.

Those do look nice and on the car great! I went with the red for mine, kind of to match the car as well. Was yours the VHT Caliper kit or just the paint? So you do the painting, let dry, another coat if needed, then bake it? Does it smell when it does bake?? Just wondering about the baking becuase I am not 100% sure how I am going to do that part...

Just the paint. Yes they smell slightly when baked and you might get a little fluid seepage out around the screw taps(I did, but being on the back side you really don't notice too much). I hit it with the first layer of paint, then waited 10-15 minutes in between. Then into the oven-obviously without the cheap parm shaker
If you do this with an inside oven..inside - don't!
I did it with convection in case the fumes became flamable.

Yellow seems to be hit color for this spring. We have also some yellows for some 951's. Units are 2 x GT2 fronts and 1 x Big Blacks powder coated yellow. those 951 Brembos do look nice in Yellow too.

Just finished doing the whole car with the glow in the dark stuff. (Roof and Hood attached) Tried to take a night "glowing" picture but the digital camera keeps overriding the program. Took some shots with the "old" 35mm but haven't got them developed yet. I'll post the "alien" shots as soon as they are developed.

The stone guard is going on the hood this weekend, fenders and doors next weekend. Track event next weekend so it has to be done by then.

Quick question, I don't have a extra oven to just throw them into, what should I be doing then? I just removed the calipers so just waiting to get my product/time to do it. How much does it run, like do you have to do very thin coats then or should 2-3 coats do me well?
