How many headgaskets does he have? I count 3 by the description!

Suspension upgrade is only a mild upgrade - sounds like the rear end hasn't been touched. All he has is the coil over kit (from Paragon) and upgraded swaybars and a STB. No biggie.

I dunno how to quantify the engine work, but its doubtful that it is worth $36k.

His 4-point harnesses are likely no longer legal for PCA DE's, DEFINATELY not legit for club racing.

Since when are HRE 3-piece wheels worth $6000?

With his tire combination (225 front / 285 rear) the car must plow (understeer) worse than, oh, I dunno - a freakin' PLOW!

Zimmerman rotors - not as good as OEM, IMHO.

Ad claims it was never raced on the track. What a waste of all those go-fast goodies. Then again, he never said he didn't STREET RACE it...

Edit: it is the uber-rare Guards Red exterior, so that may drive the price up a bit....

That guy is on crack if he thinks he can get over $30k for that car. If the engine does put out 450 hp (which I HIGHLY doubt, given the rest of the ad), I'd say the car's worth just north of $10k, but not much more....

My opinion,
-Z.

Z, good luck finding ANY 944 putting out 450 HP for a little north of $10K - they don't exist unless the owner is sacrificing 100% of his investment.

Not $36K to be sure, but if it performs as advertised and has the nice PowerHaus transmission, its worth quite a bit more than Z-Man's estimate.

Agreed. If he has the documentation to back up the claims, I hope he gets close to the asking price.

Well first, you have to believe the ad...and I don't. Second we need to start being more careful on this board about our propensity to promote depreciation of our own cars. I'm as guilty as anyone.
If this guy can get 36k, than we should be THRILLED that it sold for that number. It's time for us to try to start working the value of our cars in an upward trend. Hell some of our cars sell for less than a well squared away 914.
Do I THINK it's a 36K car. No. Do I HOPE it's a 36k car. HELL YES!
Let's not forget that this is a dealer selling this car. The more he sells for, and all dealers, the better we can do both in resale, AND in insurance reimbursments.
Think of what an insurance adjuster would think if he came here and read MANY of our threads showing cars for sale.

"Sorry pal. You're own community doesn't think your car is worth that much...and they are EXPERTS!"
OUCH!
my .02

With documentation, and dynos, this car might be a good 20k, which I think would be a pretty damned good price.

Whose on crack? I'll take 5 of them if you can reproduce that car (in that shape) for that little

I have to agree with ehall, 20k sounds about right...maybe 25k max if the right buyer comes along and the car pans out as described.

He'll never get 36k for it.... nice car though.

I think it IS worth $36k, because it has an "inner cooler".
Imagine that; the whole engine is also a Peltier Thermoelectric Cooler!

$50k, no less. I think $50k should be the minimum price for our cars. The cache from that fact will generate significant value all by itself. I can hear it now:

"Ooooh, did you hear about that mid-80s Porsche turbo that nobody will sell for less than $50k regardless of condition?"

"Hear about it? Hell, I had to buy 2 just so I wouldn't have to hang my head down at the country club! Hmmmm. Hmmmm. Wanna mow my lawn??? How about a Fresca!!!"

...ahhh, it sure would be nice!

Something is only worth what someone will pay for it. That being said, I completely agree with Ehall. If someone decided that they would pay $36,999 for that car, then that is what it is worth. I don't think that there is any doubt that it is a nice car assuming that it is not fraudulently advertised. You certainly can't build it for that price.

AMEN!!

Which is why I posted as it is upsetting to see people selling our cars time and again for 5,6,7K when it is easily a 15-20K car, assuming good conditon, standard upgrades etc.

What do mid/late 80's 930 going for now? Early 90's 968???

Maybe he should sell it on Barrett-Jackson.

Proof positive of a car is worth what someone is willing to pay.
