Default Nose vent questions

Those nose vents going to the intercooler seem like a popular mod.

Has anyone noticed a performance difference?

Can someone link me to a good site that sells em?

thanks!

http://www.speedforceracing.com/prod...dnosepanel.php

or

or

& I would probabally recommend getting the stock one modified by SFR - I have heard the fiberglass ones are not the greatest.

You won't notice a performance difference.
The actual benefits have been debated and some rennlisters have even tried some testing. The issue surrounds the idea of pressure and airflow loss through the intercooler. The stock duct is located at the point of highest pressure and that adding a duct higher on the car (in an area of lower pressure) could cause the air to not flow through the intercooler as efficiently.

One thing to add here: even after installing the upper vent, you will want to retain the plastic duct that routes the air to the intercoller. I cut holes into this duct which matched the vent so that the air can flow straight through.

To alleviate the problem of pressure loss, you can then manufacture a small duct on the inside of the vented panel that connects to the plastic duct.

After all of that, it appears to me that the stock set up is still the most efficient and that the nose vents are purely aesthetic (yes, mine is still installed ) and that the best way to improve the efficiency is to add a spoiler (like the ones from GT-racing or AIR) or install a better intercooler (such as those from SFR).

Along with Douglas, I recommend picking up a spare OEM nose panel and having it cut.
Just my input.

For the same cost or less, could get a nice IC sprayer and/or IC injection with FAR better results in charge air cooling.

Yeah but the vents look cool Damn it ! ! ! When I get around to painting the car later this summer I will "prolly" put em. I have a second nose panel I picked up cheap just to cut vents in.

LOL, I agree.

If you can get a cheap extra nose panel and do the work yourself then it is pretty good.

It cost me 2 beers and a hose clamp to have mine vented. I doubt you are going to get IC sprayers for that.

FWIW, SFR doesnt do the cutting any longer unless you are local (unless Tim recently changed his mind) due to the problem of damage during shipping.

Yea, well I have a buddy that owns a fiberglass company...

But he is always too busy to make me cool parts. He actually expects me to pay him

On a serious note, he has always said if I get him the piece so he can make the mold a lot easier, then he could make me/rennlister's anything for pretty cheap. Just might take a while as it would not be a priorty since 90% of his work is big jobs for Disney and Universal; i.e. the charaters, signs, displays for the rides, etc. If any of yo uhave been to Disney or Universal in Orlando you have seen his stuff.

So, if anyone has a one they would be able to let him use for a mold, let me know.

I would prefer the one that is on the black "951 project" car that actually is raised up to pull in more air.

The raised vent is the Stage V from Lindsey.

Ok. Well if someone has a spare one they can part with for a while for a mold to be made, I will ask if he will do it and for how much.

Are you asking for a part that's already available so that it can be copied?

Of course not because no one in the 951 performance community has ever copied anything and resold it for cheaper.

And would not have to be exact match. Could be a base to make small adjustments too.

I agree. And unless you are using their larger intercooler, it is counter-productive; almost like putting a speed brake on the front of the car.

Oh ok. Only seen it in pics.

"it is counter-productive"

So is any money spent for performance that does not grant any performance; i.e. splitters in general

So, no I can not get an IC sprayer or injection for 2 beers and a hose clamp. but 2 beers and a hose clamp got 0 in performance upgrade.
