Brake caliper question
My car is an 88 turbo S. Upon changing the brakes, I found a metal shim with two pistons screwed onto it and inserted into the calipers piston. Is this metal shim supposed to be there between the pads and the calipers piston or do the pads just rest against the pistons with no shims? My next question is the pads are difficult to install with the shims inplace, I would have to use a rubber mallet to get the pads in, is this normal? TIA, Reno

those two pistons which are screwed onto the plate, does it look like there are two pieces of this plate? because sometimes when you remove the pads the plate stays with the pistons, its kinda hard to explain

Put that metal peice with pistons on it back in. You should be able to easily put the new pads into place, you have to retract the pistons more. I use a large flat head screwdriver for that...
