Default Need Advice Clicking Noise

I have a 90 S2 with 160,000 miles on it. Started car this morning to back it out of the garage and noticed a clicking noise. Let it warm up hoping it would go away but it didn't. Oil level is fine as is oil pressure. How can I tell if it is a rod bearing without taking it apart???

THANKS
Tom

If a 944 has been sitting for a few days it often takes a few minutes before the lifters quiet down.

Where is the ticking coming from? Head or crankcase?
Bad rod bearings don't really "tick" per se... Some do, but mostly it is a deeper sound.

Most likely tappets. You may have one that is sticking.
But 951's make quite a bit of ticking noises normally...

I use Mobil 1 oil. Car ha sbeen sitting most of the winter but it has been driven recently. I let the car warm up for 15 minutes with the same noise. I guess it noise sounde like its more from the head, I will get something to listen better with today. I was so upset yesterday that I didn't spent much time with it. What can you do about sticky tappets? I was planning tolal rebuild next winter, would be nice if I can get through this now.

THANKS
Tom

if it is coming from the head then it will be the hydrolic lifters, they bleed down over time. some faster then others, these cars dont have tappets. they can take up to 15 kms of driving to start to pump them back up properly, sometimes less. take the car out for a 20-30 minute drive. also dont use any oil which is thinner than 15-40, preferably 20-50.

if it was a rod bearing it sounds like a knock, for example knocking on a thick wood door .

THANKS for all the advice. I just paniced yesterday, it was a bad week. I ran the car at idle for an hour and the noise went away, took it for a ride and its just fine.
