K26/27 Turbo Upgrade - Chip Questions
Hello from Pittsburgh, I recently became a member and wanted to exercise the freedom of solicitation and ask you all your opinions...This could be dangerous....
Baseed on various feedback picked up on this BB, I am leaning towards getting the turbo on my 86 951 upgraded to the hybrid K26/27 variation. I have talked to Bob at Turbo Performance and am ready to pull the trigger.
The two questions I have about this are the following:
1. What chip is recommended for this set up?
2. How much does this upgrade impact my performance.
For the record, the engine is being rebuilt with Pauter Rods, crossdrilled crank, lightened flywheel, 4" LR exhaust, etc.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I recently had Turbo Performance convert my K26/6 into a K27/6.
As to your questions:
1. Vitesse Racing would be my recommendation for chips www.vitesseracing.com John has a version for your stock air flow meter (AFM) or, better yet, a version for his mass air flow (MAF) conversion. I went with the MAF as it provides better throttle response, breathes better at higher RPM's and is flexible for future upgrades. Plan on at least 55# injectors if you go the MAF route.
2. A totally stock 951 will see about 195hp at the rear wheels. A chipped K26/6 with a shimmed wastegate will typically produce ~240hp at the rear wheels. The K26/6 can't hold full boost to redline, particularly at higher than stock levels. A K27/6 will typically do ~275 hp at the rear wheels with the AFM and somewhere in the neighborhood of 300hp with the MAF and maybe a bit more with a piggyback fuel system to optimize its performance. My K27/6 can hold 16 PSI boost all the way to redline, and it makes me smile everytime it does it.
For the record, I say most of this not from personal experience (I haven't made a dyno run yet with the K27/6) but from LOTS of reading on Rennlist about people with various set ups.
Do a search for TonyG and K27/6 and you'll find hours and hours worth of reading.
Good luck and welcome to Rennlist.
PS K26 and K27 refer to the cold or intake side of the turbo, higher number indicating bigger compressor. The /6 and /7 refer to the hot or exhaust side of the turbo, again, higher number means bigger turbine. Typical KKK versions for the 951 are K26/6 (non-Turbo S), K26/8 (Turbo S), K27/6 and K27/8.

Zoso, welcome to Renn
Greg is pretty dead on there. Do LOTS of reading in the archives and decide where you want your car to be because this is one of the oldest auto powerplants that enjoys a huge 21st century modification market!
