I as well am pleased by the Audi engineers on this one. It's really nice to see a diesel out there, and even nicer to see it win!
I have no idea, he did the work himself so I think he didn't update the T-belt and WP. I only got the recipt for the T-belt. Is there a simple/easy way to check it?

"Basically, at 20psi, a 20:1 c.r. motor is effectively 47.6:1 c.r. That equates to 700psi or so. "

So is that how you get the overall compression ratio with forced induction motors?

So it proves, that as long as your a/f, timing, EGT's are in check, you can, effectively, run a LOT of boost.

I know in the 30psi+ ranges, you would need to sleeve the motor, webing, etc. but the point remains the same; pressure doesn't blow motors/headgaskets, HEAT blows motors/headgaskets.

Yes - I have an old indirect injection large diesel. The injectors are forced open at 1700 psi, and close at 1450 or so - depending on condittion. (mine are perfect, of course )
The static compression is 21.5:1.
The iinjection pump mechanically controls the entire motor.

"After a one-two in qualifying the two Audis took a comfortable lead in the opening hours of the race. One car was forced to retire with overheating problems in the blistering Florida heat. The cooling system of the second car was regularly checked and cleaned to make sure it finished."

The PR guy must have been from Iceland. Sebring was very much not blisteringly hot. In fact it was FAR cooler here than it will be at LeMAns.
Either way, the AUDI win was really fantastic. kudos to AUDI for taking such a big leap with this car.

I spent a few days out at Sebring this year, and let me tell you this R10 is so stupid quite and smooth, it is very deceiving about its speed. We kept calling it the George Jetson car! The word was it knocked about 2 seconds off the track record during either practice or qualifying. And once again, the Audi support was there in force. In fact, about 80 engineers were flown into Sebring for this event!

To the best of my knowledge the injection pressure has to be above the combustion pressure on a direct injection Diesel engine, since fuel continues to be injected after the start of the combustion.

The R10 is really Audi’s attempt to make a worldwide pitch for the benefits of their Diesel technology (and to counter the negative impression that GM left after their Diesel attempt for passenger cars).

More than 50% of all new cars sold in Europe are Diesels and with a mandated lower sulfur content in Diesel fuels here in the US, they should show up en masse here soon.
