The oil pan brackets helps the oil pan grasket from bullging out to the sides. It stays nice and tight to the oil pan. When the oil pan gasket bullges it has a tendency to start leaking. Others on the rennlist have used it, maybe they can chim in with there comments.

Yeah. I have the oil pan retainers and they're a nice set. For high boost cars, there's some concern that the crankcase breather may not be able to evacuate any boost or blow by caught inside the motor quick enough to prevent oil leaks (blowing out the seals). Never happened to me, but the retainers are cheap insurance. Don't plan on installing these without retorquing the whole oil pan though and that requires an engine hoist.
