Default Sunroof Broken

I just bought a 944 turbo, and i opened and closed the sunroof a few times. When i finally realized that to pop the roof off you have to change the key position and then do it. The first time i tried this it came off fine, but when i put the roof back on the latches would not come back up and lock. I pulled the carpet in the trunk to get to the motor and craked it by hand. When i push the button i could hear a clicking back there which i think is one of the relays but it does not move at all. Could this be the notorius gear broken??

If the motor is still running, then its most likely the plastic gears that push the arms up. They get very brittle and just start falling apart after a while.

Does the motor make any noise at all? Its possible that some pieces of the gears could be jamming things up, but when mine broke on my old 944 that didn't happen.

And just to make sure, did you check the fuse?

it makes no noise at all, but i just realized that if i was able to just turn the bolt and have it latch manually then the gear could not be broken, it it probably the motor right

See: http://www.clarks-garage.com/
and go to "Shop Manual" and then "Sunroof" for troubleshooting and repair advice.
