Audi LSD
OK, someone mentioned the early Audi LSD fitting. Funny enough a friend of mine in the recycling business said he was sure that an early Audi LSD would fit as well as some of the Audi Ring and Pinions. I had assumed he was wrong but does anyone know for sure?

This trans is mounted on Audi's front axle. I have asked this from several Audi people and they all have told me there was not LSD installed on Audi version. On Quattro models this thing has been solved totally different than our cars have.

Of course this does not prove anything but here is a link to an old ebay sale of a LSD which "claimed" it would fit a 944 tranny and an Audi 5000. I'm just showing - not stating.

This is a limited slip unit from a 1985 Porsche 944 (NON TURBO). Came from a 5 speed car. 40% lockup. Very hard to find item. What you see is what I have. I had one installed in my Porsche 944 Spec race car, what a difference!!! This should also fit in the Audi 5000 trans axle
If you look this Ebay ad, you can find out that LSD came from Porsche not Audi. I suppose there's is no doubt Porsche LSD will fit to Audi trans. Question is did Audi use those LSD's from factory

Back in the day audi had a sensational racing team. AWD - way before AWD was popular. I remember on wet/slick days their cars would place 1,2,3, sweeping the competition. So I am "assuming" that they had something in the pumpkin.

The part numbers from Quaife for an audi a4 rear, and several 4k front diffs are the same as the part # for 944s. So it's safe to assume they're pretty similar. Some of those had lockable diffs, but I don't know if any of them had clutch type diffs that would work in a 944.
