...when buying a 944 Turbo?

I'm new to the Porsche world, but was looking at a couple of 944s and have spent a couple hours searching this forum trying to find what I should be looking for.

Is there a big worthwhile difference between a regular '86 Turbo and a later Turbo S? I know they used a different turbocharger and sway bars at least.

I'm mostly just curious what the common quirks are and what problem areas they have. I'll be running a compression check, so knowing what the acceptable range is would be great too.

Are turbo cars generally pretty reliable? It won't get driven every day, but it'll still see 7-10,000 miles a year. I'm coming from the world of turbo imports and corvettes and both easily get 150k on the clock and still perform like new...hopefully same with the 944!
