I had a young kid in his twenties come by my side today, he had a pontiac gto and at the light he took off like a mad man, next light I stop by his side again and asked how much power was he pulling from that car he said it that his car was 400hp and it was a v8 ls something. I said I have 4 cyl and he smiled with sarcasm, he asked me if I wanted to race him, and I said I can't take off as fast as you because my clutch is messed up, but we can go to the corona express hwy and try from 3rd gear that way my clutch won't slip as much, he said okay. So here we are about 60mph from 3rd gear he hunks 3 times and there we go. He could not even catch up, by the end of 4th i was doing in excess of 130mph i think, but i was pulling consistently away from him at least 2 car lengths. Why? if he has 400hp and 395tq how could I pulled that much from him with only 298hp and 311tq? The kid exit the fwy never gave me a chance to apologize for the embarrassment. I felt so guilty my clutch is not messed up.

The GTO is heavy but the LS 1 and 2 motors have a lot of potential. A stock 951 from a stop or a roll would be overtaken.

that GTO is called a monaro in australia. they say they come 300kw stock. i think they were telling fibs. when my car was stock i was faster then them. i felt bad when i went past one on the straight at eastern creek, its track in australia. only because he paid so much for it. they do drift well though

GTO weight is 3725 pounds.
However, this is no great advantage for Luis, as he is 6'5" and 475 pounds himself.

I had a similar experience, and my car isn't highly modded. These GTO's are LEAD SLEDS!

The new GTO my brother has one and I tell him "Good ole American Muscle made down under" . I drove one last summer if I had small kids still wanted a performance car it fits the need for speed. You can get car seats in the back and groceries in the trunk and it has tons of power.

400bhp + 4000lbs vs. 300 (im guessing rwhp, even still) + 2900-3000lbs, makes sense you took him by a couple. Gto is gearered more for the lower range, rather than mid. I think it would have been real close from a dig (stop). Thats if the 300 is bhp.
