Default 8V Lux cylinder head same as Turbo?

Hi All,

A friend of mine was wondering whether a 944 Lux 8V cylinder head he has would be a straight swap for a Turbo head; just the head. Would this be the case or are there essential differences?

Thanks,

Adam.

I'm sure others will chime in as well but the primary difference between the naturally aspirated head and the Turbo head is that the Turbo head has ceramic liners in the exhaust ports.

There is much debate as to the necessity of these liners and some big horsepower Turbo guys actually prefer the NA head because they can increase the size of the exhaust ports, which can't be done with the ceramic liners.

I'm not familiar with the Lux package, I don't think it was offered under that name in the States, I'm assuming that it's a 2.5L 8V motor?

Well not to highjack the thread but on the same subject being that now I'm confused by the above comment ........

If one is interested in having their head modified to a "stage 2" level as sold by most vendors, ie. bigger valves, some flow work, matched ports, is it better to stick with a 951 head or is it ok to use a N/A head??

And why please.

TIA

Flow doesn't matter much in the exhaust,it's enough as it is.. Lindsey got that right with their HV-option.

Thanks for the responses. I should have said that I was aware that ceramic liners are fitted to the Turbo heads. Yes, the Lux is the 2.5 N/A. My friend was considering modifying his current Turbo S engine but as it is his only transport he wondered if he could make use of the N/A head, to save on inconvenience.

I think I will have to direct him to Rennlist and ask all the questions he needs; most of it is beyond me

Thanks, Adam.
