Hey Sam - raced yourself yet?!

How does your M stand up against the 951? My 328 is a ton of fun on the road, but doesn't hold a candle to the 951. How 'bout you?

Danny,

Yeah, I paid attention coming home tonight on that stretch of road. About a mile after you pass the toll booth heading south there are some pretty hefty bumps on the road. Of course, I usually hit that about 60 MPH, so at 120 with a soft suspension it could be hairy!

It was kind of cool starting my week off Monday morning at 8:15 am seeing a 951 burning down the road. if I recall, the M3 was a black convertable. I wondered about it most of the day - if you took him or not.

NOTE TO SELF: Must get another 951!!!!! SOON!!!!!!

The way he was accelerating repeatedly when there was a break in traffic, it was pretty clear he was pushing it hard. And the paper plates could mean he just bought it new or used.

Well - I don't know why anyone would doubt this.
A chpped 1 bar 951 is very close to 300 crank HP. The porsche has MUCH, MUCH more torque - we won't go there.

So....
-BMW = 11.1 pounds/HP
-Porsche = 10.34 (conservative)

If he had lost a brief accel run with this E46, there would have been something wrong with his car - probably a leak between head and turbo on either side.

Only tried my car up against a E39 M5 a couple of times,
I would beat him from a rolling start from 60km/h to 250km/h , by a car length or so ..
The M5 is quicker off the line though , but the 951 would catch up fast.

At this time my car only had minor modifications.. 15psi, a chip and exhaust IIRC.

Oh and this where done in a uphill straight with a incline of 5%..

The 951's niche is that it is the best MID-RANGE car ever made (production)
If a Mustang is the best bottom-end and the IV Supra is the best top-end. You know what I mean.
Very unique qualities about the 951 like 8-valve head, turbocharger, 4 cylinder (big pistons), etc. - make it so.

I ran yesterday with Dr. mechanics. he have 280whp@15psi on his 951. I was using my G35 TTstock psi.
and he was faster. My G35TT is faster than M3.

I was not aware that g35's came turbo charged from the factory. Most turbo kits I have seen pump out well over 400whp. Have any pic's?

My car have a greddy tt kit@5psi. the 951 pased me all the way. But I have no problem I'am going to the dyno on a few hours for 8.5psi. If the engine dosn't blow I tell you the whp@5and8.8 psi.

My stock chipped 951 would have easily beaten an E46 M3, as I was up there with the corvette coupes (C5's) in rolling acceleration. I love the M3's, but heavy (3450# coupe) & no torque compared to a chipped 951. My '85 951 made 250/314 to the ground.

Default I ran one last year.

A beautiful blue one, it was a friendly race. We kind of started off slowly from 1st and then got into it in 2nd and through 3rd. I was about 1 car up on him especially in 3rd with the boost on. It was pretty close but I was definitely a little faster.

So a 86' 951 k26/6 with Vitesse chips, Tial, set to 17psi should hang with an E46 M3?

Tonight I raced a brand new 05/06 330i and he stayed within two or three car lengths back all the way to around 120. I was slowly pulling but it was still pretty fast.

Maybe something isn't right with my car?

The 330i is also very fast.
There is something wrong with your car, however.

the i330 is lighter than an E46 though (espescially a cab), but yeah, I think stock the only make around 250 crank HP
