Battery cover on 944s.
Any particular reason that the batter cover went away with the 85.5 models?
I suppose Porsche decided it wasn't needed but there is a 4" (okay, I'm stretching this alittle) gap between my hood and windshield and I can clearly see my positive terminal just waiting to soak up rain or play with a fistfull of snow or ...
What does "petroleum jelly" mean from: <snip> After reconnecting the terminal leads, apply petroleum jelly to the post and clamps to minimize corrosion. You can also the felt rings for the battery posts to help reduce corrosion. </snip>

It can be found in the drug/grocery store. It is a clear light weight grease that is used on your body to soften chapped dry skin, etc. The manual also suggests rubbing into anodized wheels for protection against oxidation. You must be a youngin' not to know this.

Those felt rings are like a corrossion factory.....and they look like Sears just put the battery in for me. I have a battery cover on mine....it was on there when I got it from the previous person. Dielectric gel is good to keep corrosion away. The battery cover isn't real secure though...it sorta just lays there.
