deal,

Ok let's get serious and back to topic, yes you have to remove the tranny for a clutch job.

Really Thats VERY Good, Everyone around Toronto charges 20 hours for a two piece crossover and 25 hours for the 1 piece crossover.

I wish i was closer to you..
I honestly believe it can be done in 10 hours max if the mechanic knows what he is doing even with the 1 piece crossover. I hate when 951 clutch jobs are quoted as the porsche manual says i think the labour is way over priced, not to mention the price of the clutch.. Just my 2 cents

Correction (for my earlier post), according to Clarks Garage:

944 - 16
944 Turbo (2 piece) - 20
944 Turbo (1 piece) - 24

In my humble opinion, It is a good time to do all the other little "pita" jobs when you are doing or having the clutch done , like timing and balance belts, new water pump and maybe even new rod bearings. The only thing cheap about our cars is the purchase price that you can get a dogged out one for. Zims in Dallas has fair prices on clutch parts, and the parts guys are knowledgeable. Shipping was quick.

I second Strictly German in Pasadena if you can make the drive north. I was charged $1200 bucks, they also were honest and upfront in replacing a broken reference sensor in the course of disassembly/reassembly.

The price included parts and labor, a stock Sachs clutch kit was used.

Thanks for the inupt, Im sure people will benefit. As it turns out after driving more, I dont think its the clutch anymore. Just cheap/worn rear tires+open dif. It just kinda felt like it was the clutch at first.

Works for good, fast and cheap too.

If it only does it in first it's probably not the clutch. Typically it's more obvious in the higher gears.

It can be done in less than 10 hours. Tom Charlseworth did mine in a single day including changing a few other parts. I think it took about 7-8 hours for the actual clutch change, but then he's the 944 ubermechanic. And yes, you should change out any other related parts while in there that might need it. Also, with as labor intensive as it is, you should at least go to a new Cup clutch. You definitely don't want to pay for doing it again any time in the near future.
