951 only starts second go
G'day folks. First thing in the morning (engine cold), turn the starter once and the car won't start (just the starter motor turns over for at least 5 seconds before I turn it off). Turn the starter a second time and it fires within 1-2 seconds. This happens every time the engine is cold.
As an experiment, the next morning, I turned the starter over for only half a second, stop and then turn it on again and it starts within 1-2 seconds! Every time the engine is cold, this is the only way to start the car(works fine when the car is warm). This only started happening after I got an engine rebuild (replace all seals, gaskets and rubber pipes).
Any ideas on what the problem is? Anything I should do to narrow the problem down ? I have a fresh Porsche battery (about 6 months old). Even with a half flat battery, it used to fire within about 1-2 seconds (albeit the cranking over was slower). Appreciate any help.

Nope. Tried again this morning and same problem. I take it that by turning on the ignition (not starter), that you are activating a fuel pump (or something similar). Me thinks that perhaps the fuel pump (or wiring) is disconnected during the start procedure ? In an aircraft, you normally prime the motor by turning on the fuel pump for 3 seconds. After firing, the motor operates the fuel pump. Time to visit my friendly mechanic? Due to others having the same issue, I'll post results (if I ever find the problem!)
