Purchased an 89 turbo S motor and transaxle with 53k miles from Rennlist classified.
Leak down numbers where from 1% to 2.5%.

I had confirmed that the test was performed by the owner using a new Snap-On digital leak down tester.
Both the owner and his underling assured me I was getting a good drop in and go low mileage motor.

As you can see by the attached pictures that is not what I received.

For those of you looking at the attached pictures and need an explanation

The head gasket is completely blown. This is what a completely blow head gasket looks like.
The turbo, See the scratch and the bent vanes? Junk..
The Cam. See the worn not shiny grey area? Not supposed to there on a 53k mile motor
The Cylinder. See the dark brown stains in the walls that means the cylinder has to be
re-sleeved.
The head. The white thing you see is broken ceramic liner where do think the broken piece went?
Yep into the turbo! (Side note) 3 of the 4 exhaust ceramic liners had chunks missing.

The motor in a word was JUNK complete and utter JUNK.
From what I could see they had swapped out every decent part and replaced it with JUNK.
They even swapped out the dipstick for crying out loud and replaced it with one so rusted it
Snapped off when I pulled it out.

Hey buckaro, sorry to hear that , but please disclose the name of the vendor who sold you that motor. I have better experience buying from ebay than the rennlist clasifieds. There are a lot of respectable sellers who are rennlist members for example Sam lim and many other in his class. Anyway if you need a good block I have one let me know

 

I agree, post up his name or business IF you have given him a chance to refund your $$ and he refused.

 

I have a feeling that is planet porsche the dismantler. I was going to buy from him once but the leak down test result were suspicious.
