Default Stupid BOV question

Okay, for the longest time I have suspected my BOV is bad, when I shift, boost drops off to pretty much atmospheric, maybe 1-2psi, and it's really killing my acceleration.
I have been told this is typical of a bad BOV. So, I hooked my vacuum pump up to the nipple on the top, and it won't hold vacuum. However if I blow in it, it barely leaks at all (not a noticeable amount). So, I take it out and fiddle around some more. If I blow in the bottom, it holds air perfectly. The piece that I can see from the bottom appears intact, and properly sealed against the opening. If I blow in it from the side, I can blow right through it, no problem. All the air comes out the nipple on the top.

Is it bad, or should it work this way?...
Honestly, I think it's bad, since the side shouldn't be connected to the nipple on top, but perhaps my understanding is all wrong...

If it is bad, I heard the solution is to go to the 996 BOV, which is just as cheap, is that right?

One of the simplest troubleshooting moves on a 951, if the nipple looses suction it's bad. 996 is one better to the stock 951.

buy one from Forge. It's only about a thousand percent better than the one on the 996.

It is one of the first things most 996tt that is being swapped when upping the boost.

There are some serious players in the game that keep the stock ones though.. RUF being one of them.

sweanders, are you saying I shouldn't use it, or that they should be really cheap used?... Perhaps both?

Okay, so mine is toast, I had that hunch, but I am a student, so I don't change parts on a hunch, I always confirm. Thanks rennlist!

daniel, if it doesn't leak, and you want to let it go for a good price let me know, otherwise it's probably perfectly adequate for your installation as well.

My 951 is about to go away for winter storage, so any parts I collect can't go on until the spring anyways.

ya i highly doubt i have more then 5k miles on the BOV cause i bought it brand new and i started having problems with my car in other areas so i haven't even drove the dam car. I am still saving up to do all of the work in the spring.

There were 8 replies and not one person corrected that it was actually a diverter valve and not a BOV?!

Well, we could call it a recirculating bov, or something else
Daniel951, if you plan to use the 996 BOV, then you should hang on to it. I'd hate to nab it from you if you need it.

the thing is that i can only use one so i have to decide whether i should vent to the atmostphere or not. I did before and didn't have any problems that i notice. What do u think is a fair price for it.

I just bought the Billet Recirc valve that Lindsey sells for $118. I talked to Dave Lindsey and he recommended it over the Forge that he incidentally is going to stop carrying. When I talked to him he had 2 left who knows he might make you a deal.

Anyway, as I understand it the Forge unit still has a thin diaphram that can fail. It comes with spares. The valve that I have the diapram is made of billet aluminum and the entire unit is sealed with O rings. Really simple and clean. Dave Lindsey has been running it on a car with 22 psi. of boost with no problems.

seeing that they don't cost much it would probably be better for me to just keep it incase sinc ei won't get much for it.
