I am the king of carnage
2 motors in 2 weeks the first trashed a cylinder wall have no idea how, then sat night I broke the number one and three cylinder walls. Broke all the way down the side nearest the exhaust. The reference line to my tial was found to be split in one spot, (lindsey silicone), so the wastegate did whatever it wanted and I was on the car pretty hard. Good news was after about an hour of plug reading prior to tearing it down the AFR's were pretty damn good and the timing was spot on, my chips have a -2 deg map on them for my 65 lb injectors. So i doubt I'll do much more tuning on it. But now I need another motor! this one was out of a parts car I recently acquired. I'll get some pics tommorrow while I'm at my shop and post'em at lunch

What port was the silicone line hooked to, and what spring is in your Tial? The reason I ask is most tials sold for our cars are ~13lb springs and simply cannot boost past 15psi with no pressure source. A split line would not cause overboosting, only underboosting.

the line that split was from the compressor housing of my 60-1. Ohh yeah my wastegate has a 20 lb spring in it it's a leftover piece from a 4G63 motor I built for a local guy. hoping to make a low 8 sec pass with it in the spring once it's done. He's finishing the chasis and driveline now.

Sorry for your trouble, hope you get it sorted out soon. Would you please explain what -2 deg has to do with the 65# injectors? -2 Deg is timing, 65# is fuel!!

Plugs tell most of the sr=tory of an engine I took a very interesting seminar on plug reading you can determine if timing is correct, any bit of contamination etc. Ever wonder why engine builders often spend copiuos amounts of time with a magnifying glass?. Any way since I was running flattop pistons from a a NA I pulled a couple of degrees of timing out of the base map to compensate. Timing mark on the plug ground showed that it was very effective, as it moved the all to critical mark back where it belongs. We haver use these methods to tune our midget motors as we have no way using a timing light. I know it all sounds crazy but I learned this from an IRL engine builder, the class was put on by a nitrous systems company to aid in tuning especially in individual cylinder timing controlled situations, when your looking to get all thats on the table left out of an engine. Plus timing figures are general, all engines like something slightly different even individual cyklinders due to runner length, how much heat an engine holds in the center, compared to the outer cylinders etc. OK enough of that, it cost me money to learn that.

first motor was due to piece of chrome inside the intake that got into the cylinder. that was the first failure. this one was due excessive boost and my being a little too intoxicated to be driving, I'll admit that.

I blew a motor with a backwards installed 46MM wastegate, so I feel your pain. Hit over 30lbs of boost on a large turbo. Broke a piston
