Default Bilstein Escort Cup Suspension on 951

Hi All,

Has anybody installed Bilstein Escort Cup Suspension on a 951 (1986/87) model?

If so, did you use the Lindsey Camber mounts? Can anybody advise on fitting? My installer is having some difficulty. His questions were:

[1] There are two unequal length spacers for each front strut in addition to the camber plate. Would be grateful if you could indicate which spacers are required and if both, in what order when installed with the camber plate configuration. The fitter has tried to install both spacers with camber plate but this only leaves 2-3 threads for the top nut - not very safe so assume this is wrong?

[2] The dust bellows supplied with the kit don't fit due to the tight fit of the spring around the strut. Is this normal ? Concern is that this would leave the pistons open to the elements and possibly damage the seal. Is it expected that the kit would be installed without the bellows ?

[3] There is about 30mm of slack between spring and top collar with the car off the floor, is this a problem ? clearly the space will be taken up when the car's weight is on it - just wanted to ask the question. I seem to recall that there was a spring retainer option with the kit, what will happen with out it ?

Very much appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks again and have a good day!

Regards,
Andrew

I used both spacers, shorter on bottom. If you need more thread engagement, sand down the height of the spacer on its larger flanged end.

Yes, normal, the supplied dust boots do not clear the springs.

Yes, slack is normal, that's what keeper springs are made to solve, but it's not an issue if you're careful lowering the car and make sure the springs settle onto their seats.
