Default Your 944/951 CD Player!?

I am very unhappy with my CD player that I have owned for a while now. The unit is made by Sony and has very many features. The reason that I dislike this unit, is because during the daytime, it is HORRIBLE when sunlight hits it. I cannot read anything on the screen, since it is in a pinkish/red tint, without cupping my hands around it. And yes, I have tried to adjust contrast and such and it still sucks. I was looking at units made by Alpine and Kenwood, because of their quality and also because most of their lettering seem to be colors such as dark blue, green, and dark gray. My friend has a pioneer that has this color combination and it shows up great during daytime....any suggestions in making a new purchase, within a reasonable budget(nothing over $250.00) Thanks alot...
Hinch

Pioneer premier series are good HU's. I have the cheaper DEH-6600 and i am very happy with it. The alpine line of HU's are great. Some of the best.

If you look for a new head unit, look for a deal on a new high end leftover model. The discount for a year old or so unit can be substaintial and real value if you don't necessarily need the latest and greatest. I installed a very reasonable high end Alpine (9815) that was a year old. It was installed with the Porsche 10 speaker system, less the equalizer but using the Porsche amp, and I very satisfied with the improvement of the sound. Nighttime it can be a bit too bright, but I can disable the majority of the display light with a button. When it is too bright it is distracting in the dark.

Just make a shade for it. It does not take much and you could put a porsche script script sticker on top of it Plus during the night it will not reflect up on the windshield.....Insane I know but fun to build...choose angle of cover and distance it sticks out. Fun project....Cut fold and push around radio.

Not to scale and only to illustrate.

Recently installed an panassonic unit...very, very happy with it. Power v.s price, hard to beat. I also have the 10 speaker system...On a side note, anyone replaced their speakers and what would you recommend?

panasonic was standard equipment on my car in 89 ( right hand drive european model ) and i recently upgraded to a modern panasonic unit with cd mp3 etc......very impressive and particulary like the fact that its orange illumination matches that of the dash and clocks..

Another vote for Alpine. I'm also interested in refreashing my speakers (4-way) system what do you folks like for that, has to fit stock and use stock covers...

I have an Alpine CDA-7995, very happy with it, but watch out, no built-in amp!
