I have a pioneer DEH-4700. Excellent unit that plays mp3, CD-R, has an aux input. Very reasonable.

If you have a 10 speaker system, you can use the existing amp with a HU w/o an amp.

That is the only way to go
The amps in the HU basicly suck and that 10 sp sys with or w/o amp is pretty poor as well IMHO The THD on these units is thru the roof.... You want clean power ...
If you want to hear some serious sound improvment IMHO, go with a good clean amp JB ie and good speakers Boston Acu... a 3 sp sys and then a good sub in the rear
You will be blown away at the sound you will get
Good luck whatever you go with

I got the LR 4 inch exhaust, since then I can't tell if the stereo is even on

Ed, don't forget Hinch imposed a $250 spending limit.

yeah I would like to spend no more than that...I found a unit I like, Alpine 9813 it looks pretty nice...just don't want to invest a ton into one, but I also want good quality..is that hard to find haha maybe not...thanks for all the input
