Default Sticky Door Handles!

So it used to just be the passenger side, but now drivers side as well. The handles have become all but impossible to use...we're talkin serious He-man death grip.

When the doors are open, the handles work fine, but seem a little stiff...just feels like it needs a little wd40 or something. I tried spraying some in the latch, but that didn't seem to help much.

Is it easy to disassemble whatever I have to to get to where I need to lubricate to get these door handles working again?

See http://www.clarks-garage.com/
Look under his "Shop Manual" section, "D", "Door Handle". This should give you the info you need.

awesome, i didn't even think about looking at clark's garage. Okay so after looking at that site...hopefully just pulling the handle and lubing it up should take care of the stiffness? Has anyone else had my symptoms?

I did not look at the clarks page, but you can also adjust the run on that little nylon threaded cap at the bottom. That will effect how much mechanical leverage is used when you pull the trigger.

I found that you have to adjust the freeplay in the outer lever to about 1/8" max. This is after cleaning all the inner parts with a good solvent cleaning (do not use brake cleaner) and relubing with white lithium grease. If the freeplay is too great it puts a huge load on the pivot locations and the casting can fail. I've replaced about 6 door handles and I think I've found the sweet spot as far as adjustment of that drop rod.

Be sure the allen bolts on the latch mechanism on the back of the door are tight too.
