Here in Houston a bone stock E55 turned an 11.84 ET. http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...slip-7187.html
The new E60M5's are having tranny failures, and grumbles about poor low end torque. You have to drive them like an S2000 to wring the power out.

Wow, I just found this post...
For the record, that was me that raced him. I didnt get a head start, I started a car length behind him, and I took it all the way up to 155. At the end of that I was about a half a car length in front of him.

Burning Brakes
I barely got beat by a last-generation Maxima once. Why? THE CROSSOVER PIPE WAS CRACKED (though it was right after it happened and I was wondering why my car was so slow, relatively). I'm sure he hopped on the Maxima boards and flaunted his fwd autobox (most likely), and how it beat a Porsche Turbo!!!
The majority of time when you hear someone say their slow car beat a 951, one of the five-zillion parts that affect how fast the 951 moves is not doing it's job. It's hard to turn down a little race when you're driving something like a 951, even if you know something like a leak is slowing you down somewhat.

These are definantly two different cars. Driven both extensively. One you buy because your looking for the ultimate four door driving experience. The other you are buying because you want a fast, fun, sunroof out driving experience. The 951 you can take one of your closest friends for a ride and scare the **** out of them, but in an M5 you can take you four closest friends and scare the **** out of them.
Just for reference sake I can give my comparison on both. E39 M5's aren't 3900lbs, but closer to 3600lbs with a 1/4 tank. We installed a cold air intake, straight exhaust, and a short shifter in a close friend of mines. Typically these mods will put the car in the 330whp range. Most dyno a hair about 300whp. With about half worn Toyo T1-S's, we couldn't get steady traction until mid 3rd gear. What was even more stout with the intake was its highway pull though. It honestly felt to pull harder at speed than it did in 1st-3rd. Most of the reason why E39's don't have the most stout 0-60 times is because of traction. FWIW, Car and Driver got a 4.8 0-60 and a 13.1 1/4. I have seen several unmodified M5's carry into high 12's with meaty tires and good drivers.
951 with Vitesse Stg. 2 (Old) was also very fast. From 1st through third it felt very similar with a bit of tire spin. On the highway though, I would honestly say the M5 feels faster, and by judging from the Speedometers on both cars, the M5 appeared to climb quite a bit faster. Obviously these opinions are subjective, and are only what I felt and saw, so take them with a grain of salt.
S55/E55 are a completely different story. The person that buys that car is the 6-figure relaxed doctor who just wants to have power when he needs it, but isn't going to track the car. The S55 pulled incredibly harder than both the 951 and M5 throughout the range. I had three people in the S55 and all three were shocked at the power the car had. The AMG's are no joke.
Comparing the 951 to the M5 is like comparing hot tamales(SP?) to liquorish. Different strokes for different folks.
For me it will be 968 Turbo for the weekend, and E39 M5 for my daily

I'd take the M5 over the 951, but the price points are totally different. Dump the same money in the 951, and I wouldn't even look at the M5. Then, again, I don't need child seats.
