Default what would be a good substitute car for the 951?

i am just trying to think of what car i could buy with the money if i sell my 951. I want some thing fast, but looks nice, and RELIABLE!!!

I just can't stand the 951 any more. so whats your opinion on what car a 17 year old should get?

I was THINKING a WRX but the power loss from the trans in those cars are terrible. I was thinking maybe a E36 328 or a E30 M3 (for the right price of corse). I Just don't know!!

I wouldn't really put reliable and E30 M3 in the same sentence. Parts for those are increbily expensive as well. Get an E36 328, they're relatively cheap, parts are cheap and they're fun to drive.

Hey man i fully sympathise with your promblem! I am 18 years old so i know what you mean by hating the 944. I do love the car, but the constant maintenance expenses, unability to be winter driven (mine due to extremely low stance and front lip), and care this car needs just drives me nuts sometimes. Coming from a teenager's point of view we need something that can take some abuse, be easily modded, requires little maintenance, and is fairly cheap. I have looked at everything from a friggin miata to a 850CSI! Yet nothing has come close to the 944. The only car that has come close was a 1997 BMW M3 wich you have mentioned. I still regret not giving the guy the extra 2 grand to own that thing. As for the WRX i looked into that as well. Yet again from our perspective anything with 4 doors labels you the cabby! Forget about the mercedes they are peices of crap. Me and you need to put our heads together and find a car that is RWD, relatively cheap to maintain, perferably 2 door, and one that will be as fun as the 944!

get a toyota that's extremely reliable and cheap to maintain, I have gone years without a problem with toyotas they are not sport cars, but they sure can take you back and forth safely. But if you want performance? " Porsche there is no substitute"

Now since you mention that you are 17 what about this, safe , reliable and fast you don't even have to stop to go to the restroom.

i would love to get a bmw but those cost more than the 951 and i have no clue how reliable any of them are. a wrx would be awesome but they are a lot of money and i found out that they have 25% power loss through the stock trans!!!

I was thinking a gen2 MR2 n/a. I have heard the turbo mr2's are a huge pain and are not reliable at all. gen 1 supras are just ugly . i wish i randomly got like 20,000$ to just go spend on a car lol!

Its scary how alike we think.... I am actualy looking into a 95 Supra N/A. It reliable parts are relatively inexpensive and its been my dream car, other then the fact its NA and not TT, since I was little. The cost however is not near the resale value of a 944.

Is there something wrong with your car that is making you hate it? What about your car is so bad - isn't it recently rebuilt?

also, what year is it....

luis your not going snipe my car! lol the body is awesome but so is the engine its just i can't stand all these little things breaking or not working i.e. today my lights decided to stay on after i turned my car off and i switched them off. The fuse box got messed up and now i need to buy a new fuse box.

Its just stuff like that that makes this car a pita!

i would love a supra but thats just out of the question cause they are exspencive to buy. According to ted i would probably not fit in a mr2 LOL But he only had a gen1. Any one know if the generation 2 MR2's are bigger inside or not?

Unfortunitly i am probably going to not end up selling my car, i wish i could but there is just nothing that i can substitute the car for with out spending double the amount of the 951 for. (not to mention the crappy resale value for the 951 right now )

Grrrrrrr i just get so frustrated. All the money that goes into my car for maitnenance and repair could be going into performance parts!

I was going to suggest a 91-95 MR2 Turbo. I can fit in one just fine and I am 5'10" 175lbs. It isn't crampt at all. At the same time it is truly just two seats not even 2+2.

It is actually pretty similar to the 951, but cheaper in most regards. Don't forget though that a turbo has inherent costs that you can't avoid. You are talking about more plumbing, more heat and the potential for the turbo to go bad. Those costs are similar across makes and models.

Do what I do..never drive it. Haha. I have never really had major maintenance issues with my car. Except for when my brother over-heated it. So I basically rebuilt the top half and replaced all the water lines etc....

how about a late model C4 corvette ('92-'96). Good looking cars, handle pretty well, plenty of hp/tq, cheaper pars than the 944, sbc isn't terribly hard to work with and there is alot of support/knowledge out there for them. They are pretty reliable like any sbc (look out for the opti-spark distributor, but thats not too bad). I personally love the looks of them, and they can be modded to ~400rwhp with stock displacement (exhaust, LT headers, big TB, 1.6 rocker rollers, cam, headwork, intake, good dyno tune) and these mods are relatively cheap compared to serious 951 upgrades. Also, their trannies can hold up to hard launches with sticky tires (ie 1.8 sec 60' times).

These can be had for ~$12,000 for a nice example, even less if you are willing to look/wait for a little while (I nearly bought a '94 with 88K miles, great condition, records for $9K).

Back when I had my 944 I was pretty dead set on getting a C4, and even drove a couple (and they were nice btw) but decided that I loved the 944 series too much and had to get a 951, which is what I am currently searching for

Either way...you way want to give 'em a look...
