Default How is engine rpms measured on our cars?

When i was at a dyno yesterday for the first time it seemed like what the tach was reading was higher than the dyno. is there a cable that may be loose or something else?

They read high above 4000 or so.
mine disagrees with the datalogger and the dyno (off #1) by 400 rpm!!

Rolex's 89 is accurate, for some reason, however.

Mine is? Are you sure, and how do you know? The car has 30K original miles on it too.

My 17 year old needle tach reads 100 rpm more my 2 year old Apexi AVC-R. I trust the AVC-R more.
