Default boost gauge readings...wrong??

Okay, I got everything hooked up, and I hear a hiss from somewhere in the engine bay near the afm...the VDO gauge reads around 25-27 Hg when started, and when i step on the gas, it almost makes it to 10 Hg...the stock guage reads normal...but the other guage never shows any boost building...I can hear the turbo spool up when driving, but I didn't want to take it above 40 mph...any ideas?

Oh, almost forgot, when off, the guage reads at 10Hg...

Where did you hook up the boost gauge?

The hiss coming from the AFM is normal.

Make sure the line from trhe boost gauge to the KLR is not bent, are you using a nylon tube? they are very hard and could easily bend, those nylon tubes could also leak (had one leaking).

Just saw this, the gauge could be off, so you reading 27Hg could be 17Hg. Do you have a reliable and measurable vacuum source you can test the gauge on?

I have nothing...any other way to test it?? And I don't remember that hiss from the afm before...its really loud...almost like a hose just sucking air...I hope its just a normal noise...lol

Edit: Also, forgot to add, that 10Hg reading while off...that was the way it was when I got it.

If it reads 10Hg off, I would say that the gauge isnt good! Then 10Hg means 1 atmosphere. Everything above that is boost.

well, I got into it a little today...made it hit 0 when i stepped on it...and i was wrong, its actually at 12Hg when nothing is toughing it. So I guess if its just the needle is off...then when it is idling at 27 its really idling at 15 and when i hit 0 on the boost it is hittign 12psi? Is there anyway to remove the front and adjust teh needle?

I'd say tour gage needle is off.

I got an "el cheap-o" gage with my LoTec pillar pod, and it reads '0' when the enigne is not running, and about 18" when the engine is at idle. When I hit the "loud peddle" I get between 13 and 14 psi.

The first picture shows how I tapped into the KLR line. The blue hose was left over from a Lindsey Racing hose kit, as was the aluminum 'T'. I got the 90 degree rubber coupler at Advance Auto. I double tie wraped the connections to keep from blowing a line.

The second picture shows my boost and A/F gages. The boost gage is actually reading '0', sorry for the paralax.

Yup gauge is shot, should read 0 when the car is off.

I take my boost gauge connection directly off the manifold where the double banjo bolt is. The KLR line gave me too many chances of a leak with the hose I had. 27hg is way off at idle. I don't think your vac gauge error is linear in relation to what actual boost is. I'd would get a new gauge IMHO.

Should be 16-17 in hg. idle. Off throttle highway about 21 in hg. I tapped into mine with a brass compression fitting at the klr. Good luck man, get a new gauge or send yours back.

That is where I got mine. When no signal is going through the line, the gauge reads zero.
