Default Centerlock Hub conversion for a 951

Anyone out there know of a centerlock hub conversion? I've seen it on a few 951's in shows on the net, and in random DE pictures...even one at RUF in england...but does anyone have any info or sources that can do this?

Worldwide Motorsports had these before they closed their doors to the public. They may be open still as a private, limited access shop, but I wouldn't even know how to get in touch with them anymore. The owner managed to get himself in a bit of a tiff with the rennlist gods after he advertised some fuel cells on this forum a few years ago.

I know this is resurecting an old thread, but I've been toying with this idea as of late, and was wondering if anyone else knew of more info about this?

Searched high & low, even talked to RUF about it (there was a 951 at the front engine fest that had them) they new nothing either. I've given up for now until I can make a set for myself when I go stateside for good. That and a built in jack system (air pressurized).

Some of you may have seen the 944 race car that the Lockton brothers, the owners of Worldwide Motorsport, were selling a month or two ago. It had their billet upright, as well as a spare set. If you seen the pics of these units, they are more of a work of art than just suspension component. I talked to Jason, I believe around that time, inquiring if he would sell any of these units and his answer was no. He suggested that it be up to the new owner of the car if he/she would consider making and selling these units since the files for the uprights was included in the sale of the car. The uprights use the same bearing as the rear trailing arm and therefore would be the strongest upright/spindle available for the 944 series car, much stronger than even the M030 units, and these were available as either studs or true pin drive hubs. When I inquired about these 7 years ago, I don't remember how much they were other than being way out of my price range. The Locktons now operate Worldwide wines.

Well that car sold and it wasn't to me This is certainly doable by someone, but all of the vendors I've spoken to don't want anything to do with it.

I'd like to see if someone can get ahold of the new owner and find out if they are willing to make some of these units. It's all CNC so it's just the machining costs and material, for most part, assuming that the CNC files were included with the sale of the car.

I don't think that car was built by Porsche. Those hubs and spindles could have been sourced from another race car project bin, or custom made by the constructor (Fabcar?).

Very expensive to convert , typically 1500- 2000 per corner and you still have to buy the wheels.

CDOC has two kits available in their latest catalog, $3800 and $4700, "call for technical details/specs if desired". I guess this would be for the street car that has everyhing else...?

Dude, I wish I knew! I got that photo from the Pit Girls thread in OT about a year or so ago. I would love to find out who she is and do a web search....I'm sure a hottie like that has other photos out there.

After posting a similar centerlock wheel question to BBS's email form, I recieved a call from the President of BBS North America, and we had an interesting converstation. While my planned application was a street driven 1Lap of America type car / Powertour/ Open Road Race, his advice was this: Don't use centerlocks. He offered the following reasons for this. 1) The torque required to tighten/ break the nut loose is enormous. It requires a high pressure system with high torque impact wrench, or a torque multiplying wrench, or a BF breaker bar (think 6' pipe). 2) The wheels manufactured to be used with a pin-drive/centerlock system are race wheels. This means that hoops WILL be bent if driven on the street. I have a friend who had a Ferrari 308 track car several years ago, and they were constantly replacing hoops. I don't want to be north of 150mph and lose a tire. 3) they often require custom hubs to maintain a desirable scrub radius.

The upside is they look like something from the gods.
