900 Option Code, Tourist Delivery?? Can someone elaborate?
So I finally got around to actually checking the option codes on my 87' 951 and one of them is 900, which the only thing I can find on what this means is "tourist delivery". Can anyone elaborate on what exactly this meant?

I don't actually know but would guess that this car was routed to a holding area for foreign customer pickup. Many people would pick up a car at the factory, drive around Europe and have it shipped back the their country.

My parents bought a BMW like a few years back. They flew to Germany, picked up the car at the factory, drove it around Europe for 3 months, then dropped it off to be shipped to the US and they flew home to meet the car. I think the program was called 'European Delivery.'
I would imagine what you describe is something similar.

As I understand Porsche's version of "Tourist Delivery" the buyer takes delivery in Germany. You also get a tour of the plant, museum, and a temporary or "tourist" European driver's license.

Yes, it means the car was picked up at the factory, as was mine. When I bought it in '02 it came with the original german language road map of "West" Germany and a german first aid kit (mandatory in Europe). Plus the importation papers to Savannah, GA.

My old 84 928 was a 900 car...
PO told me that back then there was a small tax savings if you physically picked up the car from the factory. He cruised Germany for 2 weeks, dropped the car off at a port, then picked the car up at his local Porsche dealer. They prep'ed the car and finished the US paperwork. He saved some sales tax.
