Jon has a point actually – auctions are supposed to start low and get bid up to the value of the item. Starting with a high (or even market value) starting price will get you no bids.
If you look at Ebay auction histories you will see the ones that get the most action are the $1 starts with no reserve. If you are fishing for high dollar sale than Ebay is not the place to go….

PS – as another central New Yorker – this is a tough time of year to sell a nice 944 like yours!
