Default Is this a real Tial

I bought a Tial 38 (used but never installed) from a guy off ebay. When it came in, I noticed it looked very similar to the ones in pictures I've seen but not exact. The word Tial doesn't appear anywhere on it. There are no markings of any kind. All the photos I've seen, they all have Tial imprinted on them in large letters. Also, the bell shaped chamber, not sure of the exact term, is more rounded than the others I've seen. It looks just like this one listed on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Tial-...QQcmdZViewItem

Since I've never seen one in real life, I'm hoping someone here can let me know if a bought a fake before I raise a ruckus.

Sorry no photos, my wife is out of town with the camera.

The one in the link says " Tial style" so I would take that to mean that it is NOT a real Tial wastegate.

I'm didn't buy the one in the link, I just used it because it looks exactly like the one I got. I need to hear from someone who has seen a real one in person to let me know if it is marked Tial or not.

sh944: Where's the link to the photo that you found? Is it a reputable source?

Here is a link to Tial Sport's website:

http://www.tialsport.com/gates.html

You can see the wastegate there and I am pretty certain it is not the same. There is also an exploded view in a pdf with measurements. This way you could take a caliper to yours and tell for sure. http://www.tialsport.com/images/38mm_drawing.pdf

I'm pretty sure mine's a fake. The seller said he bought it off ebay and then never installed it. He has agreed to refund my money so I will ship it back to him once he credits my account. He says he thought it was the real deal.

Now, I have to find a real one so I can put my car back together. I guess I'll pay the extra and buy locally since I don't want to leave the car up on jack stands till I can order one.

Apex, do you need the adapter plates? If so, Tim at SFR has the best price and he also has the copper gaskets that you should use. (my paper ones blew out after about 3 weeks)

Aye, go with the copper gaskets. You will be thankful in the long run.

Down about the middle of the page...

http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/tial/

I have no idea how reputable they are. The TiAL I had for my old '86 951 was a 35mm HP and was definitely marked "TiAL", but this one doesn't appear to be.

Are these copper gaskets something that Tim at SFR is selling now? I bought my plates from MySwiss and the gaskets were crap. I guess I could contact MySwiss first.

Has anyone with MySwiss plates purchased the copper gaskets from SFR? I know the SFR vs. MySwiss situation is/was touchy.

The SFR gaskets will work with the myswiss plates. The SFR/myswiss situation is touchy because myswiss started making the plates and tried to sell them on Rennlist without being a site sponsor.
