How does this GURU MBC work?
I have the older brass MBC from GURU put on by my PO. I can't figure out how it's supposed to work. It's just a brass socket with a hole in the bottom and a bolt that goes in the top. There's no ball, no hole through the bolt, etc. Look at the photo, is there something missing? Do I tighten it or loosen it to make boost?

That is not an MBC of any kind.

Are you sure? I thought it was a bleeder type valve. You said it splits the line from the IC. Splits it to what? It just has the one line coming off of it, the hose from the IC pipe to the wastegate. If it's not an MBC, what's it for? I thought it was designed to bleed off some of the boost signal from the wastegate so that it wouldn't open as soon, but I really have no idea what it is, or how to set it. I know that if I crank it all the way closed, it blocks all signal to the WG. As I turn it to open, it allows some air through to the WG and bleeds some to atmosphere. Any other knowledge about this thing would be appreciated.

An MBC is nothing more than an adjustable orfice, or throttle valve. What you have is (as was stated in previous posts) NOT an MBC. It is just a part the gives you two vacuum ports.
The most common MBCs are the ReliaBoost, and the AccuBoost. The ReliaBoost is a "set and forget" MBC. With this MBC you adjust it for a safe maximum boost, lock it down, and you're done. This MBC stays in the engine compartment.
The AccuBoost is an adjustbale MBC. It "lives" in the cockpit and has an adjustment **** so you can tweak the boost "on the fly."

Maybe this photo will help. It doesn't add a vacuum port, it's just added into the line between the IC and the WG. If it's not an MBC, I can't figure out what it's supposed to do.

I'm looking at getting an EBC. Just want something pretty simple, maybe a Profec B Spec II. Is this a good choice for our cars? Lots of people on the board are raving about the A'Pexi AVC-R but that seems overkill for a lightly modded car.

I have had really good luck with turboXS products.
They are well built, simple, well priced, easy to get your hands on.
The high perforamance version really does help you spool up a good 300-500 rpm faster, I tried on out on my car for a while.
Also, AVC-R is a nice unit if you wanna go EBC but its alot of money and on a lightly modded car its not going to net you all that much.
go with whatever feals good
